Young Naturalists Club: 3-day Camp Out to Wattle Ridge Indigenous Protected Area

February 9 - February 11

Nature awareness for young people aged between 10 and 15.

The Wattle Ridge IPA is a beautiful natural areas situated to the west of Dorrigo. An Abioriginal owned and managed area, we are fortunate to have been invited to hold our first annual YNC camp-out at Wattle Ridge. This will be an opportunity to learn no-match primitive fire making, campfire cooking and bush navigation skills, as well as develop knowledge of the Aboriginal cultural importance of the site.

Young Naturalists Club: Bellinger River

Nature awareness for young people aged between 10 and 15.

On this YNC outing we will be undertaking a scientific survey for the endangered Bellinger River Snapping Turtle. We will be briefed on turtle biology, latest research findings on the virus which has decimated this species in recent years, and engage in snorkelling-based catch & release surveying.

Ever wondered what it'd feel like to stand on top of Dome Mountain? I bet most of you have no idea where Dome Mountain even is right? Well after this Young Naturalist Club outing you'll not only know exactly where it is but also how it felt to stand on it's rocky summit!

Young Naturalists Club: May Outing

The Young Naturalists Club is for young people aged between 10 and 15.

Half-day outings are held once a month to local natural landscapes with a theme or challenge set for the group one each. Children interested in joining should have a strong interest in nature, are able to participate in group activities which require quiet observation and concentration, and are independent.

Nature awareness for young people aged between 10 and 15.

In search of the Lyrebird. Focus being on observing Lyrebirds or evidence of their presence.  The Superb Lyrebird is thought to be one of the oldest links in the evolutionary development of songbirds on Earth, which means they have been scratching around our rainforests for a heck of a long time.  Unusually among songbirds, the Lyrebird nests through the Autumn and Winter months, which means that now is an ideal time for keen naturalists to go searching for them.
