We’re based in the Bellingen Shire

With World Heritage listed rainforests, pristine river valleys, and stunning white beaches.

The Bellingen Shire is located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. With a population of 13, 000, the Shire encompasses unique and exquisite natural features. With 53% of the Shire made up of either National Park or State Forest, it is not surprising that the Bellingen Shire is known for its natural attractions. The Bellingen Shire is also known for its culture, with many music and arts festival attracting visitors throughout the year.

In recognising the Gumbaynggirr People as being the traditional owners of the Bellinger Valley, Coffs Coast and Dorrigo Escarpment, we respect their ancient sustainable occupation of these lands and appreciate the deep sense of cultural Connection to Country that contemporary Aboriginal People still maintain.

CEL acknowledges Aboriginal people as being the First Nation People of Australia and we pay our respects to their Elders who have passed, as well as to Elders alive today in our communities and we strive to empower our local youth to be great future Elders. Finally, CEL greatly values the ongoing involvement and support of local Elders in providing a strong cultural appreciation throughout our programs.

The Bellingen Shire is “Connected, Sustainable, and Creative” – as stated in the Bellingen Shire Council’s 2030 Vision.

Our vision for the future must encompass all aspects of living and working in our shire, as well as ways in which we are connected beyond our borders – regionally, nationally and globally. Our vision is about protecting the pristine natural beauty of our environment and enhancing our prosperous and safe community where inclusiveness and sustainable living are embraced, so that creativity and cultural activity can flourish.

CEL is proud to be part of this flourishing and vibrant community.
