to nature… to community… to yourself.

Bellingen Seedsavers

Seeds Savers is a group of like-minded growers of useful heritage plant varieties in the Bellingen area of northeast New South Wales, Australia. Our climate varies from frost-free coastal areas to inland river valleys and highlands with frosts. Join us for garden visits, seeds sharing and garden talk!

Young Naturalists Club

The Young Naturalists Club is a new initiative from CEL for young people aged between 10 and 15. Half-day outings are held once a month to local natural landscapes with a theme or challenge set for the group. Children interested in joining should have a strong interest in nature, are able to participate in group activities which require quiet observation and concentration, and are independent.

Bellingen High School Community Garden

The Bellingen High School Community Garden was established in 2011 and is the host to the ‘Food4LYF” gardening and cooking program with Bellingen High School students. The program is offered as an alternative to sport and the students play a special role in keeping the garden flourishing. The garden is open to the whole community with access to the gardening public after school hours and on weekends.

Bellingen EYE

Bellingen Environmental Youth Experience (EYE) is a group of dedicated young people from the Bellingen Shire, NSW, who have a passion for the planet and have been offering camps and activities since 2007. We work with inspiring local mentors to provide adventurous and enlightening nature camps and leadership training for young people from Years 7 and up, and to run eco-projects in our local community.

Transition Bellingen

Transition Bellingen started in  February of 2008, as part of an international network of Transition groups working to create resilient and strong communities by re-localising production of food, energy and other resources.

Deep Ecology: The Work that Reconnects

Through CEL’s Deep Ecology retreats and workshops, you can expect to reconnect to yourself, to your community, and to the earth – through facilitated group exercises that acknowledge both gratitude for the beauty of our world, and despair of what is happening to our planet and to our society. This work helps you “see with new eyes” and go forward, re-empowered for the work ahead.

What others say about us

“Being out in the bush at camp is kind of indescribable….we are in the forest, dancing and making wild noises in our tribe….and it’s like we are ourselves, our real raw selves, and we aren’t hiding anything and it is okay……and so much fun!”

SavannahAge 16

“A fun adventurous holiday with all my friends… The mentors on this camp are both incredible role models and beautiful, fun, smart people! I also love getting to know new people and making new friends, that is definitely also a stand out. The bonds you form on a camp like this are tight, family like bonds. I think jEYE provides the perfect balance between education and fun and provides important life skills. I love going on jEYE so much.”

EllaAge 14

“…EYE has transformed the ways I live my life, creating a space that furthers my own sense of self and the way I interact with the natural world.”

ZiannaAge 18

“My daughter is a girl of the great indoors. Over the years that she has attended EYE camps she has gained a real appreciation of the natural world and is much more comfortable and confident with her place in it as a consequence.

I think more real learning is to be had on a 3 day EYE camp than a term at school – learning about working with others in a group; learning about thinking independently; learning about the world around us; learning new skills and learning about responsibility. It has also been great fun. EYE is an invaluable part of my daughter’s education.”
